Theme:“House” in Asian Monsoon Climate

Theme of this year, 2012 is “House” in Asian Monsoon Climate.

High temperature and humidity are the outstanding characteristics of Asian Monsoon Climate. The Japanese Islands are mostly located in Asian Monsoon Region and blessed with abundant rainfall and water resources.

Thanks to plenty of water and wet air, this region is favored with plenty of plants- resources which have produced and developed their agriculture and wood construction system.
Building style of raised floor, sloped roof, deep eaves etc were rationally born from Asian Monsoon Climate. House was also the base place of community for forming their agricultural life. You can see that our life style and surroundings were born and brought up under Asian Monsoon Climate.

However, after 20th century, our life style was formed by being effected by the Modern Civilization which was brought up under much drier climate than ours and not always suited to the lifestyle of Asian Monsoon Climate. In another words, our current life style may be a bit different from proper life style of our actual surrounding nature.

Recently environmentally friendly, save-energy life style and construction are required under the current circumstances of various concerns such as CO2-reduction for global warming, electricity reduction for limited resources of fossil fuel, problem of atomic power etc. These new requirements should be solved and accomplished also by matching with our Asian Monsoon Climate.

Under the circumstances, the theme of this year’s competition is the construction of the “House” where you can live pleasant life under present-day comfortable living system by making positive use of our surrounding nature of Asian Pacific Climate, namely such as high temperature and humidity, shower, strong sun-rays in summer time period.

For the “House ”, we hope your proposal on solution for pleasant relationship not only between the House and the nature but also relationship among people living in the House, as the base of community.

As to definition of Asian Monsoon and the House, you can make your own image freely for total Asian region without confining only to Japan.

Your creative, positive and freely-thinking proposals are most welcome.
We are looking forward to having your proposals as many as possible.

【Schedule】

Entry Submission Period: August 24th (Fri), 2012 〜 October 9th (Tue), 2012
(Application must be sent by mail as reaching before 17:00 of closing day. Application by hand or by courier will not be accepted.)

【Screening Requirements】

• Drawings:
  Drawing should represent the concept of the theme just by the drawing as much as possible with less explanation word. ( at any scale)
  Drawing should be block plan, floor plan, elevation view, cross-section view, perspective view, model photo etc.
  You may use blue print, pencil, ink, color, photo, print etc at your discretion.
• Materials:
  Complete all drawings, photo. etc on one sheet of thick drawing paper(like Kent paper) of A2-Size( 420mm x 594mm).
  Thin paper such as imitation vellum-paper should not be used as easy to break when opening the envelop.
  Paneled or framed one will not be accepted.

All matters not covered in these regulations are left to the discretion of the entrants.

On the back side of entry, attach the application form with filling up the necessary matters and send by mail to the under-mentioned address.

• Entries must not have been previously published in any form.
• Copyrights on the entries will remain to the property of the entrants, but the sponsors of the competition will reserve the right to publish the winning entries in magazines and other media.
• Competition entries will not be returned.
• Entries should not be submitted simultaneously to any other competition. Entries submitted to the other competition will be disqualified.
• Competition entries must not infringe the copyright of any other work either in whole or in part. Do not use images from magazines, books or websites.
• If suspicion of infringement is found, the winning prize may be revoked by the sponsors.
• If copyright infringement or other problem is found after announcement of winning prizes, all the relevant responsibilities must be assumed by the entrants.
• Change of application contents by the entrant after winning announcement will not be accepted.
